Listen to Metallica’s First Show with Cliff Burton
Here’s an unmissable piece of metal history for ya: an audio recording of Metallica’s first-ever performance with legendary bassist Cliff Burton, which took place at San Francisco’s The Stone on March 5, 1983 (which, I’m sure I don’t have to tell you, was before the group swapped Dave Mustaine for then-Exodus guitarist Kirk Hammett). It’s safe to say the band knew they’d found a special talent in their new member, ’cause they were already devoting set time to the bass-only “(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth.”
The setlist for the show was as follows (via Metal Injection):
- “The Mechanix”
- “Phantom Lord”
- “Jump in the Fire”
- “Motorbreath”
- “No Remorse”
- “Seek & Destroy”
- “(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth”
- “Whiplash”
- “Am I Evil?”
- “The Prince”
- “Blitzkrieg”
- “Metal Militia”
The audio is below. Enjoy:
