Dave Mustaine Wants a Final Big Four Show in the Bay Area or Los Angeles
Back in January, Dave Mustaine expressed his desire to play at least one more Big Four show before Slayer call it quits for good. Mow he’s doubling down on that wish, telling Eddie Trunk in an interview that he would like it to take place either in the Bay Area given that region’s importance to the early thrash scene, or L.A. because… he lives near there?
Blabbermouth has the transcript of the interview:
“I think everybody in the metal community wants to see that, with Slayer going away. Although, fortunately, with the attention that they’re getting, they’re not [going away yet] — there’s so much attention for them that they continue to play, which is great for us. But I think that before they retire, there should be another ‘Big Four’ show. And since the scene primarily started in the [San Francisco] Bay Area, I think it should be done in the Bay Area or here [in Los Angeles]. To me, it’s just not right. I think there should be at least one more.”
Dave Mustaine, of course, is largely believed to be the reason there haven’t been any additional Big Four shows since 2011 — and had to be goaded into doing those — so the above shouldn’t be treated as anything more than “Whacky shit Dave Mustaine says.” Still, if it were to ever happen, a Bay Area Big Four show would certainly put a nice capstone on Slayer’s career and the ’80s thrash movement in general.
