Maximum the Hormone Release Delightfully Weird New Song and Video
Back in September we learned — via a seven-plus minute music video — that Japanese metal outfit Maximum the Hormone had signed with a new record label. Now the band has made good on their promise to release a proper first single in November with a new song called… well, I’m not sure what it’s called, but according to Google Translate there is a phrase in the video’s title that translates to “Talk about future noodles catacotti,” so let’s go with that. That makes more sense than “Menkata Cottelee,” which can be found in the video’s description.
I watched the video, and while I enjoyed it immensely — this band is always so much fun — I had no fucking clue what was going on! Thankfully the YouTube description provides a plot analysis in English:
“Maximum the Ryokun [guitars] was diagnosed as complication of lifestyle-related diseases and warned that he was going to die if he wouldn’t change his lifestyle by a medical doctor. So Maximum the Ryokun started diet and exercise, lost weight and got well.
“Fans were totally shocked by his lean body and have been complaining “We liked him FAAAAAT!!” Yes, this is the answer song to such fans.
“What does the subtitle which is the same as the title of the next release item mean? This song was composed as ‘Part II’ of the song, “Maximum the Hormone” released 7 and a half years ago.
“How will the next stage of MTH who have had the belief of ‘Menkata Cottelee’ be?! Will head banging and growling be unsealed?! Maximum the Hormone 2nd brand new music video dedicated to all the gouty people (calorie mates)! Eat it with your eyes and ears!!”
That actually makes sense! And the band is shown enjoying noodles at the very end of the video. Full circle. Congrats on your healthy new lifestyle, Ryokun.
As for the song, it’s catchy as hell — stuck in my head after just one listen! — and does that usual Maximum the Hormone thing of expertly combining genres, in this case nu-metal, grind and funk. Enjoy! Thanks to friend o’ MetalSucks Adam F. for sending this in. No idea on when/if a full new album is on the way, but I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough.
