The Satanic Temple is Suing Netflix and Warner Bros. Over Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Unless the douche from Asking Alexandria finally blesses us with another chapter from his memoirs, this is going to be the single lamest thing you read today.

Variety reports that the Satanic Temple has filed a $50 million copyright lawsuit against Netflix and Warner Bros. over their show The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (which is based on a comic book, which itself itself is a darker, more “grown-up” version of Sabrina the Teenage Witch). The suit alleges the show’s producers have stolen the design for the temple’s infamous Baphomet statue.

The seven-foot-tall statue, you may recall, was originally created (via crowdfunding!) by the temple to be put outside the Oklahoma Statehouse as a way of protesting the placement of a statue of the Ten Commandments at the same location. Just this summer, it was brought to the Arkansas State Capital building for similar reasons.

But the temple alleges that Sabrina is using their design to create “Satanic panic,” a term with which all metal fans are surely familiar.

In the Satanic Temple’s defense, the design of the Sabrina statue does clearly owe a debt to the original statue. Not so much in their defense is that we don’t general think of Satan as someone who settles his beefs in court. And besides, I’m not really sure what they’re fighting for in this instance; protesting a lack of separation between church and state is one thing, but this just seems like  a publicity ploy.

Or, as Birth.Movies.Death. put it, “Feels like one of those, ‘You’re not wrong, you’re just an asshole’ moments.”
