Mastodon’s Brent Hinds Missed the Grammys Because He Was the Victim of a Hit and Run
When Mastodon’s “Sultan’s Curse” won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance at the beginning of this year, one member of the band was noticeably missing during their acceptance speech: guitarist Brent Hinds. Hinds has always been the “bad boy” in Mastodon, so at the time, you may have chalked his absence up to any number of hypothetical reasons, from inebriation to disinterest to disdain for the genre in which the band was nominated.
As it turns out, the actual cause for Hinds missing the ceremony was far more terrifying. In a new Instagram post, the guitarist reveals that he was the victim of a hit and run while on his motorcycle. He has also shared some gruesome photos taken immediately after the accident.
Hinds’ statement reads:
“To all the people that think that this is recent ..or funny? please stop the stupid fucking comments ..I put the post up to pimp my ‘friends’movie..Go see this movie..!!! And go fuck your self’s ..????????if you think this is funny in any way ..I was lucky enough to live through playing a Lil bit a guitar on the sound track on January 23, 2018 and that’s why I couldn’t attend the Grammy’s where we actually on a Grammy ..!(because I was involved in a hit and run on my motorcycle that ended me up in ???? pistola)..that i got absolutely NO shout out from my best friends/band mates???? ..I know they love me and just be havin stupid nervousness, but still ! Here is a few photos of the results ???? it’s opnening at @plazaatlanta tonight ! Made by Ben Weinstein ..don’t no his IG handle @hellbound_the_movie“
You can see the photos of Hinds below. I speak for everyone here at MetalSucks when I say we’re glad Hinds survived and is ultimately okay. Motorcycle accidents are crazy scary and 2018 has brought enough tragedy.
