All That Remains’ Phil Labonte is Still Pissed at Trivium’s Paolo Gregoletto
Urban Dictionary defines “projection” as follows:
1) An unconscious self-defence mechanism characterised by a person unconsciously attributing their own issues onto someone or something else as a form of delusion and denial.
2) A way to blame others for your own negative thoughts by repressing them and then attributing them to someone else. Due to the sorrowful nature of delusion and denial it is very difficult for the target to be able to clarify the reality of the situation.
Keep that in mind as you read the latest “exchange” between All That Remains frontman Phil Labonte and Trivium bassist Paolo Gregoletto. “Exchange” in quotes because it’s more like a one-way conversation between Labonte and himself.
Labonte and Gregoletto first sparred earlier this year when the Trivium bassist took issue with Labonte’s pro-gun stance and his anti-MetalSucks appearance on Infowars. A back and forth between the two continued for some time after — with Gregoletto disparaging Labonte’s vocal ability (and politics) and Labonte taking shots at Gregoletto’s role as bass player (huge insult there, brah) — eventually dissolving into the internet ether as tends to happen in these situations (with many of the tweets since having been deleted).
So: over the weekend, a Trivium fan commended Paolo’s role as part-time temporary frontman for Trivium in Matt Heafy’s absence and took a shot at Labonte in the same breath. Paolo liked that tweet.
Let me repeat that because it’s important: Paolo liked a tweet. That’s all. It was a funny tweet. I would’ve liked it too if I’d seen it or if someone took a shot at an old rival of mine.
But that was all it took for Labonte to accuse Paolo of still having “a chip on his shoulder,” despite the fact that Paolo said nothing new. And Phil continued on by dissing Paolo in conversation with fans who responded to him while offering praise for the other members of Trivium.
Projection much? It seems there’s really only one person involved in this “feud” who still cares.
You can view the whole exchange below, culled by Loudwire. I’ll be up in the cheap seats waiting for you guys to tell me what happens next since Phil blocked me on Twitter many years ago.
@TriviumPaolo After how amazing of a frontman, you can be. I wonder what @philthatremains thinks now? Does he bow down to you?
