Eddie Van Halen/David Lee Roth Play Coming to Off-Broadway in January
Well, this is interesting.
The Atlantic Theater Company — which originally founded by playwright David Mamet (Glengarry Glen Ross) and actor William H. Macy (Shameless) — will debut a new play called Eddie and Dave early next year. And if those names immediately conjure images of a certain iconic guitarist/singer pairing, well, that’s not a coincidence! The play, which was written by and co-stars Amy Staats, is “A raucous retelling of the rise and fall of Pasadena’s most groundbreaking 80s rockers told through the foggy lens of a lonely, out of work MTV-VJ.” Misters Van Halen and Lee Roth aren’t named specifically, I assume for legal reasons, but in case there’s still any doubt as to the play’s subject matter, check out its promo image:
So, uh, yeah. Clearly supposed to be Van Halen’s two most famous members.
Also kinda interesting: Eddie and Dave will each by played by women (Ms. Staats her self will played Eddie, while Megan Hill will play Dave). Hey, it worked for Mindy Kaling and Matt and Ben.
Eddie and Dave will run from January 10-February 10, 2019. Ticket links and additional info are here.
