Ugh, So That’s What Sylar Sound Like

Prior to today’s release of “Open Wounds” I don’t think I’d ever listened to Sylar before, or if I had it didn’t make much of an impression. I’ve seen the name around and they seem to be reasonably popular, so with today’s release I figured I’d give ’em a shot. Why not, right?

Wrong. Wikipedia describes them as having roots in post-hardcore, but man oh man, that’s not what I’m hearing here. “Open Wounds” is rap-metalcore, as if Fred Durst vomited on top of fourth-generation core riffs complete with good cop, heavily auto-tuned, clean-sung choruses and Linkin Park-inspired electronics. Whose idea was this? Jesus fucking H. I’m not sure if this is a new direction for the band or what but this is definitely the last time I will ever be listening to Sylar.
