No Need to Feel Guilty About Liking Portrayal of Guilt
What does Portrayal of Guilt sound like? Well, two things oughta tip you off right quick: their new album is called Let Pain Be Your Guide, and the new single from that album, “Your War,” features an appearance by Full of Hell frontman Dylan Walker. So yeah the band doesn’t do “introspective sensitivity” so much as they do “make sure the neighbors never ever drop by and ask to borrow some sugar.”
And they do it excellently. “Your War” is only 2:19 long, but it contains multitudes, starting off as Converge-esque hardcore, seizing into chaotic grind, slowing down into awesome elephants marching DM, and then slowing down more, like the elephant has been speared and the wound is fatal but the elephant doesn’t know it yet.
“Your War” has been my introduction to this Texas quartet, but between this song and Pain‘s equally-vicious other single, “A Burden,” I am officially stoked to hear the whole album. I suspect my fellow loves of aural anarchy will be equally into this.
Check out both “Your War” and “A Burden” below. Let Pain Be Your Guide comes out November 6 via Gilead/Holy Roar. Pre-order it here.
