Hey, Listen to Zarraza Right Now! They Slap!
Every now and then an unknown band comes across my desk that’s so damn good I become paralyzed with writer’s block, unsure of what the fuck to say. As such, I’ve had an open tab in my browser with Zarraza’s new album Necroshiva in it for at least the past month, probably longer, trying to figure out the best way to communicate to you all just how hard this shit slaps. Browser resources being as precious as they are should speak to how good this album is: it fucking rips!
Direct comparisons to other bands will ultimately sell any new act short — Zarraza are their own beast complete with many unique traits — but since my primary goal is to get you to listen, and quick sonic references are the best way of doing that, I’ll throw “sounds like” plugs to Decapitated, At the Gates, Morbid Angel, Revocation… you get the idea. It’s death metal that grooves and has a distinct technicality about it, but not without a keen sense for melody and composition.
Zarraza — who hail from Kazakhstan — released Necroshiva in May. Stream it below and purchase it on Bandcamp.
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this article reversed the band’s name with the album title — sorry about that! Album still slaps!
