The Ocean Released a Studio Vlog and It’s Fucking Fascinating (Of Course)
Under ordinary circumstances I cannot get myself to make it through a full studio vlog. They’re occasionally interesting but most are more or less the same, and I don’t have much of a hankering to sit around watching tens of minutes of studio footage… I don’t necessarily need to know how the sausage is made, just gimme!
I find myself wanting to know EVERY fucking detail about this new Ocean album, though, because everything they do — and have ever done — is fascinating, tickling the brain on a number of different levels. The Ocean’s new studio vlog, the first in a series of I’m not sure how many, covers the drum tracking process for their new album Phanerozoic I: Palaezoic — in a remote Icelandic studio (with breathtaking footage from outside!) — as well as the conceptual motivation for the album. The Phaneorozoic suite is the first Ocean recording to feature new drummer Paul Seidel, and this video offers a glimpse into what he’s capable of behind the kit (a whole fucking lot, no surprise). As a bonus, we also get to hear some rough clips of music from the album.
Watch below. More in this series coming soon. Listen to the album’s first single, “Permian: The Great Dying.” Phanerozoic I: Palaezoic comes out on November 2nd via Metal Blade and can be pre-ordered here.
