Stream The Skull’s New Psych-Doom Ripper “As the Sun Draws Near”
Chicago doom metallers The Skull, featuring ex-Trouble members Ron Holzner on bass and Eric Wagner on vocals — plus guitarists Lothar Keller (Sacred Dawn) and Rob Wrong (Witch Mountain) and drummer Brian Dixon (Cathedral) — are on their way to releasing their second full-length album, The Endless Road Turns Dark. Drawing from the members’ experiences with other bands, as well as influence from the classics like Sabbath, The Skull craft a crunchy-yet-mellow soundscape with tremendous artistry.
Bluesy, melodic riffage and compelling vocals pervade The Skull’s latest single, “As The Sun Draws Nearer”, a psychedelic doom essential that’ll take you riding the riff train through all of space-time. The band commented on the song:
“‘As the Sun Draws Near’ is the first song that Lothar Keller and I started writing for the new record and it is the last one we completed,” says Holzner. “This song has gone through more hills and valleys than I have, ha!!” “It’s been a long walk through the darkness, and I’m tired,” adds Wagner. “I think this song just might be about finally seeing daylight.”
The Endless Road Turns Dark will be out September 7 via Tee Pee Records. Pre-order here, and in the meantime, catch The Skull on tour on the dates below.
