Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee in the Studio with Producer Bob Rock
Are Mötley Crüe making new music?
The glam metal legends, you are no doubt aware, called it quits at the end of 2015 — sort of. Although they played a “final” tour (and even went so far as to make a big publicity stunt out of signing contracts vowing to retire), Vince Neil almost immediately revealed that “Mötley Crüe’s not breaking up. We’re still going to be making music…We’re just not going to tour any more.”
It now appears as though the band is making good on Neil’s threat. Social media posts on pages belonging to both the Crüe and drummer/Father of the Millennium Tommy Lee reveal that the gruesome twosome have been in the studio together, along with producer Bob Rock. Rock, as you may know, produced both Mötley’s most- and least-famous albums, Dr. Feelgood and Mötley Crüe, as well as several then-new tracks for the 2005 greatest hits package Red, White & Crüe.
Additionally, although it has since been changed to simply “Boomz!!!!!!”, loudersound.com reports that Lee’s post initially included the caption “It’s that new shit!!!”, which certainly suggests that the trio are working on… well… new shit.
Now, it’s worth mentioning that so far there’s been no evidence of Neil or guitarist Mick Mars joining their bandmates in the studio. In other words, it’s possible these dudes are working on something new that isn’t, technically, Mötley Crüe.
Having said that, we know that the long-in-the-works movie version of The Dirt is finally being made, and is due to arrive on Netflix next year. It would make a LOT of sense for Mötley Crüe to release some new music — even if it’s just a single — to coincide with the flick’s release. It would also be a real dick move to post photos of these guys together on Mötley Crüe’s socials if it’s not Mötley Crüe-related. So the idea that Nikki and Tommy and Bob are, indeed, working on new Crüe isn’t so far-fetched.
