Check Out Bluesy Rockers BEiTTHEMEANS, One Of Vinnie Paul’s Favorite Bands
If a band gets the seal of approval from Vinnie Paul, it’s a given that they must be pretty good, right? One of his favorites was the small-town Alabma trio BEiTTHEMEANS, who play a fusion of southern blues and stoner metal. In fact, Vinnie even personally invited BiTM to join Hellyeah on tour this fall before his tragic death earlier this year. I think it goes without saying that yeah, this band is pretty dang good.
BiTM’s music is incredibly jammble, but real genius lies in their ability to tell a powerful story. Their newest song, “The Black,” is a plea for people to actually give a shit about the drug epidemic that plagues our society. The band commented:
“The song ‘The Black’ was written with the intent to educate the public on drug addiction and mental illness while reminding them the dangers of complacency. There are a lot of people in our society walking around with these specific demons and addictions like zombies and we’ve become too comfortable dismissing them. We have to look at addiction and mental illness as what it really is, a world wide healthcare epidemic and not a problem for our courts systems.”
The music video for “The Black,” directed by Video Rahim, is available below. Give it a watch, but keep in mind that this song was definitely made for radio. I’ve also included a stream of their 2011 album Head Held High so you can get a full taste of what BiTM have to offer: think Led Zeppelin with more down-south grit. If you like it, I’d highly recommend taking some time to scour the rest of their catalogue, ’cause it’s all great.
BEiTTHEMEANS’ upcoming album, Alabama Calling, is out August 31th via Cornelius Chapel Records, and you can pre-order it here.
