Deftones are Working on Their Next Album
No Deftones album to date has come to life without some kind of drama through the creative process. Perhaps that’s why the band’s fans follow the progress of new Deftones music so closely, way more so than fans of most bands their size (big, but not huge). Deftones working on new music is an EVENT.
So: back in May frontman Chino Moreno revealed in an interview that the band had “six or seven” songs gestating, and now The Official Deftones Fan Club tells us that they’re back at it again. Yesterday the band posted a photo on Instagram of guitarist Stephen Carpenter in the band’s rehearsal space in Sacramento, CA with the hashtag #writing. Whether the choice to picture Carpenter specifically is a response to his alleged displeasure with the direction of the band’s last album is anyone’s guess — and one photo is hardly definitive proof of much at all — but from the looks of it the band is making good on Moreno’s promise to create more of a “joint effort” this time around.
We will, of course, keep you posted on any updates. Mid 2019 is likely the soonest we’ll get a new album at this pace.
