Opeth Announce Live at Red Rocks DVD, Release “Sorceress” Clip
On my recent summer vacation jaunt to Colorado I had the opportunity to check out the famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre on a whim — saw a sign on the side of the road en route to somewhere else and figured it might well be my only opportunity to ever see it. Boy am I glad I did; WOW, what a fucking incredible place to see a show! Whatever guy was first like “Let’s build a venue right… THERE… yeah, that’s the ticket, right in the middle of that rock formation that looks like fucking Mars!” deserves ten gazillion gold stars, because I cannot imagine a more epic setting for a show.
Obviously I’m not the first person to have that thought (or second, or thousandth), but Opeth are the latest: the Swedish death metal-turned-prog troupe are getting ready to put out a video release of their 2017 performance at the legendary amphitheatre entitled Garden of the Titans: Live at Red Rocks Amphitheater. The band has now released “Sorceress” from that set, which you can watch in full below. The band sounds SUPER tight, the mix is sharp and the crowd is feeling it. I find myself wishing there were more wide-angle shots showing the band and the venue from far away to capture just how insane the setting is, but I gather that’s challenging to do at night, and you can still get a taste of the grandiosity of the place through some of the pans.
Garden of the Titans: Live at Red Rocks Amphitheater comes out on November 2nd via Moderbolaget Records / Nuclear Blast Entertainment; pre-order here.
