Dave Mustaine Says There’s a “95% Chance” of a New Megadeth Album Coming Out in 2019
Great news for people who care about new Megadeth music made after Countdown to Extinction of Good Riff Ideas: Dave Mustaine says the band will very likely release a new album in 2019. Which makes sense; a new Megadeth record has arrived every three years like clockwork since 1999’s Risk (save for Endgame, which came out like 2+ years after United Abominations).
From a new interview with Guitar World:
Can you talk a bit about what’s going on with Megadeth now? Are you guys working on new material?
Yes, actually, we are. We have been for a few weeks now. All the band members are at home writing stuff and putting it in the same spot, keeping all the riffs centralized in one place. And anybody can access anybody’s stuff. And then once we’re done I’ll start assembling everything.
So, will we see new Megadeth music in 2019?
Absolutely. For sure. A whole new record, I would say the chances are probably 95 percent. And at least one new song, I’d say it’s 100 percent. No question.
The new album, or new song, or whatever it ends up being, will probably be most notable for marking the recording debut of drummer Dirk Verbeuren, who joined the band after the release of Dystopia in 2016. That album, of course, had Lamb of God’s Chris Adler on drums. If Mustaine keeps getting a killer new drummer for every fresh offering, he may actually manage to hold my interest beyond “I keep covering this lame-o because it’s my job” for another few years.
