Make Yourself Listen to Make Them Suffer’s “27”

Make Them Suffer are such easy targets, and I know I should dislike their work purely on aesthetic grounds and abuse of auto-tune. Whatever: any hesitation I’ve had about endorsing them ends with the release of their new single, “27.” It’s the third time in as many years they’ve released material I’ve enjoyed. Their adjustment to the standard good cop/bad cop metalcore formula — to make the good cop parts sound the Deftones if Chino Moreno was a lady — and the fact that they’re excellent songwriters who know how to craft a hook are enough to make me look past the other stuff. I hope you do, too.
