GoFundMe Established for Dropdead Vocalist Bob Otis After Motorcycle Accident
This past Wednesday, July 18, Dropdead vocalist Bob Otis crashed while riding his motorcycle with Kaleigh Melise (who plays with Otis in Lolita Black) outside a car wash in Providence, Rhode Island. The road was slick with soapy water and oil from the car wash, and upon trying to brake Otis hit the ground and rolled 25 feet. He suffered six broken ribs and multiple flesh wounds including bruising and road rash. At this time, there is no word on the condition of his bandmate Melise.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Otis has experienced medical complications from an accident. He is still suffering from damage sustained in a car wreck in the early 2000s, and now he has over $30,000 in medical bills not covered by insurance. His friends have set up a GoFundMe in an effort to offset some of those costs, and after only one day, the campaign had raised $12,632 of its $15,000 goal. Hell yeah, general public, you’re the best! There is also a local benefit show planned to take place in August; for more details on that, contact Dropdead guitarist Ben Barnett through the GoFundMe page.
Otis was released from the hospital shortly after the accident, but Barnett stated on July 23 that Otis would be going back to the hospital as he is still in “great pain” and having trouble breathing. “I can’t move more than six inches either way without screaming in pain,” Otis posted on Facebook on July 21. The next day he expressed his gratitude for all the heartfelt messages he’d received (over 1,000 by that point), saying he is “‘completely overwhelmed.”
Donate to the GoFundMe campaign here if you can. Best of luck in your recovery, Bob!
