Survey Shows Metal is the Most Popular Music Genre in U.K.

A new poll has revealed that metal is the most popular genre of music in the U.K., beating out pop, hip hop and reggae to the top spot.

The survey showed that 20% of respondents living in the U.K. listed metal as their favorite (excuse me, favourite!) genre, while dance music, hip hop and country and western each nabbed 15%.

Those in the north and Midlands regions had a particular affinity for rock and metal, with 31% of those polled choosing those as their favorite genres. Black Sabbath, of course, are from Birmingham, which is in the Midlands.

These survey results should be taken with a spoonful of salt: the survey was conducted by online casino site bgo.com, used social media to solicit participants, was open to anyone who wanted to join and only surveyed 400 people. In other words: it was hardly scientific. Still, there’s no doubt that the U.K. reps metal hard, and we’re forever grateful for that gift they’ve given the world!
