Fight Amp Returns — with a New Member — as Low Dose
If you were as depressed as we were about Philly’s Fight Amp throwing in the towel, this will be a very nice surprise for you: all three members of that band (guitarist Mike McGinnis, bassist Jon DeHart, and drummer Dan Smith) have joined forces with vocalist/guitarist Itarya Rosenberg (ex-Legendary Divorce, no relation) to launch a new project, Low Dose. You can check out their first-ever single, “For Sure,” below.
Unsurprisingly, it’s awesome. Fight Amp always had a clear ’90s grunge influence, but they’ve really leaned into it here, and Rosenberg sounds like Courtney Love if Courtney Love could sing, or maybe Brody Dalle if Brody Dalle had more range. The result is a real foot tapper that makes me wanna dig my old flannel shirts out of the closet and jump into the pit. That might sound like a backhanded compliment, but I don’t intend it to be. Good hard rock music is a dying art. The world desperately needs bands like Low Dose.
Unfortunately, we don’t know when Low Dose’s self-titled debut album will be out, as the band is still in talks with labels, according to a press release. Apparently if you’re willing to spend $999, you can get a digital copy on Bandcamp, though. I like “For Sure” so much that I’m almost tempted, but I also need to eat this month. Decisions, decisions.
If you live in the Philly area, Low Dose’s first show will take place on July 21 at Johnny Brenda’s. I bet it’s rad.
