Download Declared the Dirtiest Festival in the UK

Last week we told you about a highly scientific study from Get Licensed, a website that helps people get licensed. Today, we’d like to tell you about another study that was no doubt conducted with the most stringent of scientific standards, this one from Spa Seekers, a website that helps seekers of spas. Maybe MetalSucks needs a name that isn’t so much of a thinker. Killtimebyreadingsnarkyblogsaboutheavymetal.com or something.

ANYWAY, according to the aforementioned Spa Seekers, the dirtiest festival in all of the United Kingdom is the Download Festival (once officially known as Monsters of Rock and colloquially referred to just by the name of its location, Donington):

“SpaSeekers surveyed 500 British festival goers on their basic hygiene habits at festivals including whether they shower, change their underwear, and brush their teeth.

“The data revealed that 40% of Download festival goers do not shower at all across the whole weekend, 48% say they do not wash their hair, and 1 in 10 don’t even brush their teeth.”

First of all: gross. Second of all: having been to Download once, in 2006, we can confirm that the people who camp on the festival grounds, at least, come out of the weekend smelling like shit took a crap. Vince and I had a lengthy train ride back to London after the fest and that train car was not a pleasant environment. I assumed these pungent people hadn’t showered in three or four days (I’m pretty sure some of them hadn’t even changed clothes), but I would have guessed they were at least brushing their teeth. Way to combat the stereotype about the British, Downloaders.

The most recent Download took place this past week and was headlined by Ozzy, Guns N’ Roses, and Avenged Sevenfold. Hope everyone had a great train trip back.
