Here’s the First New Smashing Pumpkins Song to Feature the “Original” Lineup in 18 Years
The Smashing Pumpkins have just released “Solara,” their first song to feature guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlain alongside bandleader Billy Corgan in 18 years. Bassist D’Arcy Wretzky is not involved, and the reasons behind why are pretty fucked up; you can read more about that right here.
So: how is the song?
Ehhh…
Given all the hype surrounding the “reunion,” I’d expect something grander. But even taken on its own — regardless of who plays on it besides Corgan — it’s not doing much for me. It’s just… meh. It’s fine, I guess, but I doubt I’ll be coming back to it. Still, I’m hoping old hope that the two four-song EPs Corgan has said the band will release have something a bit more magical than this.
Check out “Solara” below. Summer tour dates here.
