Video Premiere: Mountaineer, “Hymnal: Passage III”
Perennial MetalSucks favorites Secrets of the Sky broke up in 2016 to our great disappointment, but from the ashes of tragedy rose a new phoenix, Bay Area post/sludge outfit Mountaineer (led by the former’s Clayton Bartholomew). Mountaineer put out their debut album Sirens & Slumber last year to thunderous applause, and they’re already back with its follow-up, set to be released later this summer.
Today we present to you the premiere of “Hymnal: Passage III,” the video for which is just as arresting as the song itself. As the music builds upon itself, layer after layer, so too do the accompanying visuals, showing the mysterious and cyclical patterns of nature’s ever-expanding beauty. The song is at once uplifting and melancholy, utilizing lush soundscapes to communicate maximum emotional effect. It’s absolutely gorgeous.
Check out “Hymnal: Passage III” below along with the Mike McClatchey-directed video. Passages comes out on June 29th via Lifeforce Records; pre-order here.
