Alice in Chains Cover Soundgarden Songs on Anniversary of Chris Cornell’s Death
Yesterday, May 18th, marked the one-year anniversary of the death of Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell. Alice in Chains gave tribute to their Seattle comrade by performing two Soundgarden covers to close out their set at the Rock on the Range festival, where Soundgarden had been scheduled to perform last year before Cornell’s untimely death.
It’s likely a lot of fans in attendance didn’t know quite what they were witnessing. Alice in Chains said nothing of the anniversary from the stage and chose two relatively obscure songs, the first and last of Soundgarden’s discography: “Hunted Down” (the lead track from their debut EP Screaming Life) and “Boot Camp” (the last song from their final album, Down on the Upside). The band’s lighting rig displayed “CC” and “SG” on opposite sides of the stage as the feedback rang out to close the set, the only non-musical part of the tribute.
Very classy, as has been Alice in Chains’ M.O. of late. You can check out some fan-filmed footage below. Rest in Power, Chris!
