Here’s a Preview of System of a Down’s Serj Tankian on Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown
Serj Tankian’s guest appearance on Parts Unknown is just three days away. On May 20th, the System of a Down frontman — who has always made his Armenian heritage a focal point of his identity — will serve as a guide for Anthony Bourdain to the culinary delights of Armenia.
A preview of the episode is now available online, and while it mostly serves as a quick history lesson on Armenia, Serj makes a brief appearance towards the end. It may not be new System of a Down music, which still seems like it’s a long way off — or even new Scars on Broadway — but it’s something! Check it out below. The show will air at 9pm EDT this Sunday on CNN.
Here’s the episode description:
“Armenia (airdate: May 20) Bourdain takes a wide-angle look at the culture and history of this country, heavily influenced by Europe and Russia, with guides musician of Armenian descent Serj Tankian (System of a Down), and historian/Armenian resident Richard Giragosian. Breaking bread with Tankian at the restaurant Dolmama in Yerevan, during dinners with locals, the host explores the native and diaspora Armenian populations’ survival and achievements against the odds.”
System a Down just announced a string of West Coast U.S. shows later this year. Get dates here.
