Tool’s Maynard Tells Bandmates at Live Show to “Please Finish” New Album
Oh, Maynard. Always the troll! Donning full riot gear at the band’s performance this past weekend at the Northern Invasion festival in Wisconsin, the always sarcastic Tool frontman addressed the crowd to explain his choice of outfit:
“A lot of people recently have been asking me, Maynard James Keenan, what’s with the fucking riot gear? Well, I’ll tell you. I’m afraid of bananas, and other forms of fruit, because eventually you wonderful people are going to run out of fucking patience. So I beg you – Danny, Adam, and Justin, please finish your parts so I can finish mine. So I can take off this fucking riot gear.”
While Maynard’s vocal parts have now been written, he is waiting on his bandmates to finish recording their parts so he can put his work to tape (actual analogue tape). As of May 4th we learned that all drums had been tracked, typically the first instrument to be recorded, while vocals are ordinarily the last. With Tool in the midst of a spate of live shows and all of guitars and bass still to go, it’s gonna be a little while still.
Tool released a live soundboard recording of the new track “Descending” a couple of weeks back. The song’s been in the band’s live sets for a couple of years already.
Ultimate Guitar has a few great shots of Maynard dressed in riot gear at the show, which you can check out below:
