Wolvhammer’s The Monuments of Ash and Bone Will Rip You Into Shreds
Minnesota/Washington metallers Wolvhammer have perfected their own breed of metal: blackened sludge. As far as I’m concerned, you really can’t get any more crushing than that, and their latest release, The Monuments of Ash and Bone, takes Wolvhamer’s reputation for savagery to the next level.
The moments of catharsis on the album are just as compelling as the relentless pummeling. The record is unique and innovative, but never crosses the line into “experimental” territory. On top of the fact that this is purely fucking fantastic music, The Monuents of Ash and Bone is also excellently produced thanks to Jarrett Pritchard’s (Goatwhore, Exhumed) efforts to cultivate an old-school aesthetic without being cliche.
As official MetalSucks intern, I declare that The Monuments of Ash and Bone shall be deemed the zenith of the third wave of black metal. This record is proof that the black metal scene is very much alive and well. Check out the full stream below.
