Track and Video Premiere: Lago, “Soiled is the Crown”
We’ve been big fans of Arizona death metal unit Lago for over five years now, so it brought us great joy to learn they’d signed with rising genre powerhouse Unique Leader Records last year. The good guys won!
Labels, both figuratively and literally, are ultimately meaningless if the band ain’t got the goods to back it up, though. So how does Lago’s new music — from their forthcoming second full-length album Sea of Duress — stack up against the high standards they’ve set for themselves?
Today we all find out with the band’s new single “Soiled is the Crown.” The track finds the band picking up where they left off on their 2014 album Tyranny, delivering pummeling blasts of savage riffs with just the right amount of dissonance. If you like your DM with guts churned, ear drums rattled and knees shaken, this is the stuff for you!
The new single comes along with a video directed by Matti Way. Explains the band:
“This was our first experience making a video, so we were VERY apprehensive about the idea. We tend to have a mentality of “less is more” in terms of our artistic direction, so the fear of doing something over the top and ridiculous was definitely there. This video is honestly the brain child of Matti Way. We had a really simple idea and he really took it and ran. We were thrilled with how it turned out. The textures, the graininess, the cuts and especially the lighting turned out incredible! This video really encompasses the tone of the whole album in our opinion.”
Sea of Duress comes out June 8th via Unique Leader; pre-order here. Catch Lago live:
