Need Some New Music To Zone Out To? Check Out Thought Eater
Thought Eater (how was that name not taken yet?) are a relatively new three-piece band out of Baltimore, MD. Take some riffs from early Mastodon, mix them with the trance-inducing powers of Sleep, top it off with the headspace of Intronaut (whose members have collaborated with Thought Eater’s in the past) and boom, you have Thought Eater! Proggy grooves are slowed down and repeated just enough times to be curiously hypnotic, with enough variation to keep you entertained during the ride.
Pro tip: when you’re listening to their first single, “Bones in the Fire”, use headphones. You’ll need them to really capture the song’s essence, which is Thought Eater’s textural madness. Throughout the wash of sound, there are sonic blips that bring character to the track. Plus, you wouldn’t want to miss out on the core of their sound: their wild 12-string bass. Hold up — a 12 string bass? Yup. Actually, it’s a standard bass with three of everything, giving a mesmerizing double-vision effect to every note. Darin Tambascio‘s unique bass work will be featured prominently on Thought Eater’s upcoming album, as well as a sprinkling of synths and a 12-string acoustic guitar for some added texture.
Check out the first single here, and if ya dig, you can pre-order the rest of Bones on Fire, which will be coming you way May 18th.
