Exclusive Song and Video Premiere: Gyre’s “Wanting More”

If you’ve been fans of New Jersey’s Gyre for  as long as MetalSucks has, you’ve been probably been wondering if the band, who have released two EPs, would ever put out an actual full-length. Well, group hug, fellow Gyre lovers: this summer, the band will at last do just that! The album is called Shared Visions, and as illustrated by the first single, “Wanting More,” it’s everything fans wanted and everything not-yet-fans didn’t know they wanted but will be thrilled to hear. It’s heavy and melodic, it’s proggy but not in a navel gazing kind of way, and it melds a wide array of influences without sounding schizophrenic. Think Crack the Skye-era Mastodon, but somehow both heavier and poppier, and you have some idea what you’re in for.

MetalSucks is thrilled to debut “Wanting More,” which you can check out via the below lyric video! Says the band of the track:

“‘Wanting More’ was the second song we wrote as a three piece. It captures what we are now are where we are headed. It is a song about ‘wanting more,’ letting go of people and things that negatively hold you back and overcoming the self-doubt that goes along with it. ‘Wanting More’ was probably the quickest song we have ever written. We know it’s cliché, but it seemed like it was writing itself. Originally, it was based off the opening riff that Juan created, and then like all of our songs, it was bounced off the other two members until we all just felt its essence was captured. We had the most fun we’ve ever had writing this album. Three people that easily share in that joie de vivre and amor fati.”

Shared Visions drops June 15. It was recorded and produced by the band’s own Juan Soaz and mixed and mastered by Kevin Antreassian of The Dillinger Escape Plan fame. You can watch a short trailer for the album here, and pre-order digital editions here;  stand by for further audio and video samples, preorder links, and more on the album to be released over the coming weeks!
