WSOU Picks of the Week: Pennywise, Alien Weaponry
Seton Hall University’s WSOU radio is the only all-metal, all-the-time station currently broadcasting in the US, and has been a force in metal for DECADES. It’s also streamable online from anywhere in the world! Each week, the staff of WSOU shares their picks for the heaviest of the heavy, as well as the station’s charts for that week, right here on MetalSucks. Enjoy:
Pennywise – “Never Gonna Die” (Dylan G.)
Believe it or not, punk rock is alive and kicking, and Pennywise are still throwing those kicks like your cousin that considers whippits a hobby at a hardcore show. What nitrous oxide has to do with kicking, I’m not entirely sure, but you definitely had a relative in mind while reading this. “Never Gonna Die” explores the societal truth of repeating an eternal cycle of suffering, and that’s about as punk as a stick-poke tattoo of a spoon on the shaved part of a hot pink side-mullet.
Alien Weaponry – “Holding My Breath” (Nick E.)
Great new metal this week out of New Zealand from Alien Weaponry, as the young band released the track “Holding My Breath” off of their upcoming debut album titled Tū. Thrash fans will be thrilled to hear this song, which fits well within the genre but adds an undeniably fresh and furious sound. The driving riff from start to finish combines with some impressive percussion to thump every listener right in the chest.
