Drummer Jon “Charn” Rice (Job for a Cowboy, The Red Chord, Scorpion Child, etc.) Joins Skeletonwitch
Jon “Charn” Rice simply will not be happy until he’s played drums for as many awesome metal bands as possible. Most of us first became familiar with Charn’s impressive playing while he was in Job for a Cowboy; he went on to join the trad metal outfit Scoripion Child; he’s played live for Behemoth, The Red Chord, Revocation, and Cephalic Carnage; and now he can add the mighty Skeletonwitch to his impressive resumé. He replaces Dustin Boltjes, who has been with the band since 2011.
Skeletonwitch made the announcement over the weekend:
“At this time, we feel it’s necessary to inform everyone that Skeletonwitch has parted ways with Dustin Boltjes. Dustin gave much of his creativity, time, and energy to the band, and for that we thank him and wish him the best. Jon Rice will be handling drum duties for the time being. See you all on the road.”
No additional details regarding the reason for the split with Boltjes was given, and the drummer himself has not commented on the situation as of this writing.
Whatever happened, I can’t imagine anyone finding the news too jarring. Boltjes is a very talented dude, but obviously, Charn ain’t a slouch himself. Skeletonwitch have survived more potentially-damaging line-up changes than this. They’ll figure shit out, don’t worry.
