Carcass Part Ways with Guitarist Ben Ash
Carcass have parted ways with guitarist Ben Ash. I know, I know. It’s like, what’s even the point of there being a Carcass anymore without Ash, right?
Okay so I’m being snide, but can you blame me? Ash joined the band in 2013, he has no songwriting credits with Carcass, and his only recording credit is on Surgical Remission/Surplus Steel, the collection of unused material from Surgical Steel. Ash is not credited on Surgical Steel itself.
So, yeah. It’s hard to see this as a devastating blow to Carcass.
Ash made the announcement via a Facebook video after fans noticed that he wasn’t part of Carcass performance at Netherlands Deathfest this past weekend. Said Ash:
“At the start of 2018, I’ve decided to come away from the touring circuit, and focus on getting back into an educational role, and focus a bit on study and individual music projects. From the footage that I saw of the band playing Netherlands Deathfest, I knew they’d knock it out of the park. They sounded killer. And the chap that is in the place I was, is doing a crackin’ job.”
We don’t know who that chap is exactly at this point, but video of him performing with the band certainly suggests that he indeed doing a crackin’ job:
We’ll let you know as soon as someone figures out who the new dude is.
