Daughter of Late Slipknot Bassist Paul Gray Wins Settlement
October Gray, the seven-year-old daughter of late Slipknot bassist Paul Gray, has won a settlement in a lawsuit against her father’s doctor, Daniel Baldi, and “other health care providers,” according to Des Moines’ KCCI.
October was born in August of 2010, just three months after her father’s death from an accidental overdose of fentanyl and morphine in 2010. In 2016, the Iowa Supreme Court dismissed a case Gray’s widow, Brenna, brought against Dr. Baldi and the aforementioned “other health care providers,” but ruled that October’s case could proceed.
Baldi’s attorney, Connie Diekema, (understandably) declined to provide the press with details of the settlement, while Gray’s attorney did not respond to KCCI’s request for comment. She did, however, stress “that the ruling does not find Baldi caused Gray’s death.” Baldi was acquitted of involuntary manslaughter charges in 2014.
I can’t imagine this settlement will make it any easier for October to grow up without her father… but it’s something. When she’s older, any admission of wrongdoing on Dr. Baldi’s part, however tacit, might provide her with some satisfaction. I guess we can only hope.
