Rumor: The Faceless are Plotting a Planetary Duality 10th Anniversary Tour
The Faceless’ 2008 sophomore album Planetary Duality was such a triumphant success that, after touring in support of it for two entire years, the band decided to headline their own run in late 2009 in which they played the record in full. It was a daring and bold move for such a young band — full-album tours were and still are typically the domain of acts twice their age — but one that was met with great praise for both its audacity and execution. Here was one of the most promising up-and-coming young bands in metal fucking going for it, and they pulled it off with aplomb.
We all know what The Faceless have been through since, with seemingly endless delays on new music, constant member swaps and myriad tour cancelations and no-shows preventing the band from achieving the massive success we all thought they would. But, with a fresh album under their belt that’s received plenty of critical praise, an album release tour that went off without a hitch (no news is good news) and a U.K. run planned for next month, Michael Keene (the only consistent member all these years) seems poised for redemption.
And now there’s this: guitarist Justin McKinney (also of The Zenith Passage), posted the following on Twitter over the weekend:
“Planetary Duality turns 10 years old this year. Just saying. ????????”
McKinney could be teasing a reissue of some sort, but it seems unlikely: anniversary tours are all the rage these days, and McKinney’s always been very forthcoming about sharing his personal thoughts on social media. Further, Planetary Duality is one of those albums that’s just meant to be listened to in full; it’s a truly complete record, magnificent from start to finish, and it’s the piece of music that really made this band. Why wouldn’t The Faceless take advantage of this opportunity to get back in the good graces of fans they’ve lost along the way? The timing is perfect.
