Watch Zakk Wylde Perform the National Anthem at a Chicago Bulls Game
Performing “The Star-Spangled Banner” is the new black. Everybody in metal is doing it! Whatwith Joey Belladonna performing it before a Buffalo Bills game, Joey Belladonna performing it before a Syracuse college basketball game, Joey Belladonna performing it before a Chicago Cubs game and Joey Belladonna performing it before a Chicago Bulls game, it’s completely safe to say we’re seeing a genre-spanning, nationwide trend here.
The latest to jump in: Zakk Wylde, who became the second notable metal musician in recent months to open the festivities for the Bulls. Wylde’s performance was typically Wylde-ian: lots of pentatonic shred, tons of pinched harmonics and plenty of character. Check it out below, and wait for the inevitable “Josh Homme performs the National Anthem” headline in the coming months… oh wait.
