Stream Fotocrime’s Goth-y New Album Always Night (ex-Coliseum)
Earlier this year ex-Coliseum mastermind Ryan Patterson shocked us with the news of the dissolution of his long-running band, but in one fell swoop also wowed us with his newest project, Fotocrime, an outfit that mines the depths of ’80s post-punk and new wave for something that fits remarkably well into today’s goth revival and dark wave scenes. Fotocrime finds Patterson’s voice as we’ve never heard it before — deep, dark and haunting — atop a pulsating backbeat of retro-inspired gothic guitar sounds.
Fotocrime dropped the Always Hell 7″ this past spring, and now they return with the Always Night EP, which further explores the sonic themes and palettes they brought to life on their first release. The EP features three new tracks plus two from the previous 7″ and a remix of the third by Ben Chisholm (of Chelsea Wolfe). Guitarist Nick Thieneman (Young Widows) and bassist Shelley Anderson round out Fotocrime’s lineup, with the ultimate bastion of dark ’80s music behind the kit: the heralded drum machine! It’s a perfect mix, and it’s executed remarkably well. Looking forward to hearing more from this outfit in the future.
Always Night is out now via Golden Antenna Records; order here.
