The Poor Have Nothing Left to Eat but the Rich in Silence Is The Enemy’s “The Voices”
Belgian metal outfit Silence is the Enemy have released a music video for their song “The Voices.”
I’m immediately hooked by the song, but it’s the video that stands out to me. The story of this short film is that of the feudal class struggle, a story of popular resistance to an unjust and absolute ruler. The lord feasts as his subjects suffer, fat and covered in filth from the food he’s eaten, while the people before him are thin and frail, dirt covering their meager robes. One of the guards takes common property from the people for the lord. And then comes resistance: a man creeps around to each person and whispers something, starting a movement, and it’s not long before he’s built up enough support for a formidable challenge. You’ll need to watch to find out what happens next. Who is really in control?
