Drumception 2017: Acclaimed Producer Will Putney Talks About Toontrack’s Superior Drummer 3

Hot on the heels of the release of Superior Drummer 3, the world’s flagship drum programming software, Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren wrote and recorded a completely original song only on the drums. We then sent Dirk’s drum track to five different guitarists — Brendon Small (Dethklok, Galaktikon), Alex Skolnick (Testament), Will Putney (Fit For An Autopsy), Brandon Ellis (The Black Dahlia Murder) and Reba Meyers (Code Orange) — and asked them each to write their own song on top of it. We’ll be sharing all of those finished tracks with the world throughout October and November as part of our second annual Drumception series.

Will Putney’s original composition, which we released last week, took a devastatingly beautiful progressive death metal approach to Dirk’s track; you can and should listen to that here. In addition to his role as guitarist in Fit For An Autopsy, Will is also a much sought-after producer, having worked with The Acacia Strain, Thy Art is Murder, Body Count, Exhumed, Misery Signals and many, many more. We caught up with Will at his studio to talk about he utilizes Toontrack products, including Superior Drummer 3, for his songwriting process and in his every day work flow. Watch the clip below.
