Shit That Comes Out Today: November 3, 2017
As none of you would know, I had shoulder surgery on Wednesday. This week’s STCOT will be a little bit brief seeing as my shoulder feels like sliced deli meat and because I’m still learning how to type (and masturbate) with only my left hand. I’ll have a picture of the gnarly fucking scar for everyone net week, but for now, just get some new tunes in your ear.
Cannibal Corpse
Red Before Black (Metal Blade)
On playlist with Suffocation, Deicide and Decapitated
Listen: “Red Before Black”
Read: The MetalSucks Review
Death metal’s flagship band are back for their14th studio album, and much like their previous effort, A Skeletal Domain, this album is shaping up to be fucking awesome. This really shouldn’t surprise anyone though seeing as how everything cannibal Corpse puts out is great. I’m pretty sure we all know the drill here. Go buy this album, try to headbang on rhythm to the whole record, and then understand how Corpsegrinder’s neck got so damn beefy.
Converge
The Dusk In Us (Epitaph/Deathwish Inc.)
On a playlist with The Dillinger Escape Plan, Cave In and Trap Them
Listen: “A Single Tear”
If you’re unfamiliar with Converge, the only way to truly get a feel for their brand of chaos is just to listen. Fortunately it does seem as if Converge have lost a step either as “A Single Tear” is a fantastic single. When I saw Gojira in Brooklyn back in September, I missed Convverge open for them. I was salty about it then and I’m salty about t now. Oh well, at least I have a ton of painkillers to make me think happy thoughts.
Anti-Flag
American Fall (Spinefarm)
On a playlist with NOFX, Bad Religion and Rise Against
Listen: “American Attraction”
I remember that Anti-Flag were super popular when I was in 8th grade and that’s about it. Although we wouldn’t normally cover a band like Anti-Flag, this song is pretty catchy, even if it is different from their old stuff. But maybe I only like this because of all the Percocet. Guess we’ll never know.
Hobosexual
Monolith (Kitchenable Records)
On a playlist with The Grizzled Mighty, Fly Moon Royalty and Smokey Brights
Listen: “Monsterbator”
Hobosexual are a band with the name you never knew you wanted. The name comes from guitarist/vocalist Ben Harwood growing up poor in an LGTBQ family. With songs like “Monsterbator”, it’s difficult not to get excited about their music, which they refer to as “heavy-ish-stadium-in-your-parents-garage”. Killer stuff here, folks. Check these guys out.
Beast In Black
Berserker (Nuclear Blast)
On a playlist with
Listen: “Beast In Black”
The best way I can think of to describe these guys would be an 80s version of Amon Amarth with synths that’s fronted by Rob Halford. If you like power metal then there i a very high chance that you’ll like this band too. Maybe I’m just saying that because 87% of power metal sounds the same — yes, I ran the numbers — but I can say for a fact that I like this band.
