Stone Temple Pilots Announce First Show with New Singer
This isn’t good news/bad news so much as its good news/weird news.
The good news is, Stone Temple Pilots have announced their first show with their new vocalist. It will take place on Tuesday, November 14 at the Troubador in West Hollywood. It will also only be open to SiriusXM contest winners… but that’s not the weird news.
The weird news is that the band still hasn’t revealed the identity of their new singer. It’s not clear yet if they intend to do so before the show, or if the identity of the new frontman (or frontwoman!) will remain a surprise right up until the moment the band hits the stage.
If it’s the latter, I’d assume the new singer is someone who is already famous. It would be a bit anti-climactic if the new vocalist walked out on stage and after two weeks of anticipation, everyone was like “Wait, who the hell is that?”
Previous rumored additions to the band have included John Borja, who plays in a Fillipino STP cover outfit, and The X Factor contestant Jeff Gutt. Life of Agony’s Mina Caputo and Peter Dolving (ex-The Haunted) have also thrown their hat in the ring. The band also performed with Joss Stone back in 2015, and that was pretty great, too. In May, Filter’s Richard Patrick, who used to be in the short-lived-but-excellent band Army of Anyone with STP’s DeLeo brothers, said the band had officially hired someone, but if that’s true, well, kudos to STP for keeping industry gossip to a minimum.
Personally, I’m still pulling for Dan Greene from The Armed. But that seems unlikely. Bummer.
