Rob Zombie is Making a Sequel to The Devil’s Rejects
The only two Rob Zombie movies that are any good are House of 1,000 Corpses, which is basically an homage to Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, and The Devil’s Rejects, which is basically an homage to Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Everything the dude has made since then has been some level of terrible.
This being the case, I don’t know if this good news or bad news… but according to Bloody Disgusting, Zombie is making a sequel to The Devil’s Rejects.
There aren’t any details regarding the film’s story yet (and “story” might be a strong word given Zombie’s increasingly-apparent disdain for intelligible narratives). The Devil’s Rejects‘ three murderous protagonists, Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig), Otis (Bill Moseley), and Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie) appeared to running into their deaths at the end of that movie, but people stay dead in horror movies about as frequently as they do in comic books and soap operas, so whatever. There’s also always the possibility that the flick ends up being a chronological prequel.
It will be interesting to see if playing in this sandbox again helps get Zombie’s directorial career back on the right track. It will also be interesting to see what approach he takes to the material: Rejects is technically a sequel to Corpses, but they are wwwwwaaaaaayyyy different movies, tonally and aesthetically. My guess is this will hem a lot closer to Rejects than Corpses, but maybe Zombie will throw us for a loop and shift styles again.
While we wait for more news, here’s the best scene from The Devil’s Rejects:
