Heavy Montreal is Coming Back in 2018!
Many sad face emojis were typed the internet over when Heavy Montreal, the long-running metal festival in (duh) Montreal, Canada, announced last winter that the annual summer event would skip a year in 2017. Renovations at Parc Jean-Drapeau, the festival’s home, were making it difficult, they said. The “increase in cultural events” around Montréal’s 375th Anniversary were providing challenges, they said. Great reasons, to be sure, but one still had to wonder whether we’d seen the last of the mighty festival.
Rejoice: Evenko, the company behind the festival, has just announced they will make good on their word! The 2018 incarnation of the festival will take place on July 28th and 29th at “temporary festival grounds” on the île Notre-Dame at Parc Jean-Drapeau. The festival will return to Île Saint-Hélène in the same park in 2019. Huzzah!
No bands have been announced for the festival yet. While arrangements to book acts are certainly already underway (with many perhaps already confirmed), the festival’s organizers are inviting fans to submit their own suggestions for which bands they’d like to see here. You can also follow the official Heavy Montreal 2018 Facebook event here. Get on it!
