Audio: Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst Threatens to Get Taproot Members Laid

I was on the Metal Injection Livecast last night with our homie Emperor Rhombus promoting our new book, Hellraisers, and at some point, the conversation swung around to hilarious audio recordings of celebrities when they either didn’t realize they were mic’d or thought the audio would never be released — y’know, Orson Welles doing a frozen peas commercial, Bill O’Reilly shouting about doing it live, Axl Rose yelling at his stage crew during a 2006 performance, shit like that.

One such recording which we did not discuss, and which I personally was not even aware existed until about twenty minutes ago, is the one below, in which Fred Durst leaves a furious voicemail for Taproot guitarist/vocalist Stephen Richards. Giving zero fucks about nu-metal as anything other than a punchline and potential means of torture, I was unaware that Durst had apparently intended to sign Taproot at one point before they decided to go with a different label. (Honestly, I’m not even sure I know which band was Taproot.) For some reason, when Durst found out the band wasn’t signing with him, he completely lost his shit. And when I say “for some reason,” I mean “as a result of his massive ego.”

ANYWAY, the voicemail is hilarious, and may very well be the single finest audio recording to which Durst has ever lent his vocals. My personal favorite part is when Durst warns Richards not to come to any Limp Bizkit shows in the future, “because if you do, you’re gonna get fucked.” It’s amazing how the failure to include a single word can make all the difference between a threat and an enticement, isn’t it?
