WSOU Picks of the Week: Motörhead, Queens of the Stone Age, Evil Invaders
Seton Hall University’s WSOU radio is the only all-metal, all-the-time station currently broadcasting in the US, and as been a force in metal for DECADES. It’s also streamable online from anywhere in the world! Each week, the staff of WSOU shares their picks for the heaviest of the heavy, as well as the station’s charts for that week, right here on MetalSucks. Enjoy:
Motörhead Feat. Biff Byford – “Starstruck” (Katie W.)
No matter who attempts the great feat, it’s almost impossible to emulate the most legendary band in all of rock history. That being said, if there exists a group of dauntless musicians equipped to take on this mighty challenge, it is the ultimate metal mash-up of Motörhead with Saxon’s legendary frontman, Biff Byford. Heavier guitars, accompanied by the howling voice of Biff with an undertone of Lemmy’s (RIP) iconic rasp, “Starstruck” delivers the perfect execution of a Rainbow favorite. Motörhead with Biff Byford reproduce a classic with a touch of their own vision while safeguarding the integrity of the original masterpiece.
Evil Invaders – “Mental Penitentiary” (Dylan G.)
Unfortunately, there hasn’t been a lot of speed metal released in 2017. Bands like Evil Invaders, however, are keeping the genre alive. If you watch the music video for their song “Mental Penitentiary,” you can tell that they are definitely going for that ’80s thrash revival sound. Really, though, nothing says ‘old school metal’ like long hair and mutton chops.
Queens Of The Stone Age – “The Evil Has Landed” (Mike R.)
“The Evil Has Landed” mixes the familiar Queens of The Stone Age sound with a dash of jangly classic rock. With fun, bouncy riffs and addictive chord progressions, this new content by Josh Homme and company delivers the goods while drawing on influences from past rock acts throughout history.
