Listen to the New Cradle of Filth Song and See if You Find it “Achingly Beautiful”

I hate Andrew Lloyd Webber with a fiery passion. Paradoxically, I enjoy Cradle of Filth most when they are at their maximum Webberiest. Maybe all Phantom of the Opera ever needed to win me over was some screaming, or maybe Cradle of Filth just need to lean into their cheesiness, hard. I dunno.

In any case, there are parts of the band’s new song, “Achingly Beautiful,” that are very Webbery. Specifically, the sections from 3:51-4:35 and from 5:51-6:18. Those parts are operatic and cinematic and fun and I dig them. As for the rest of the song, it’s standard CoF stuff. If that appeals to you, swell. If not, move on.
