Listen to This Jazz Pianist Rock Alice in Chains
Friend of MetalSucks Sivan Cotel of Stonecutter Spirits was driving to work the other day when the familiar melodies of Alice in Chains’ “Got Me Wrong” started playing on NPR, a most unexpected place to hear them… only they sounded quite a bit different than the versions we’re all used to.
A little bit of Googling later, and Sivan turned up the Brad Mehldau Trio as the culprits of this jazz interpretation of AiC’s 1994 classic. The unplugged version of the track, which came out in 1996, arguably attracted more attention than the original, and perhaps served as inspiration for Mehldau to give it the jazz treatment. But whatever the reason, it’s phenomenal: the piano solo around the three minute mark is dazzling!
Give it a listen below. The track comes from Mehldau’s 2012 album, Where Do You Start.
