Slayer’s Kerry King on Celebrities Who Wear Metal Shirts: “It’s Not for Me to Judge”

Age tends to mellow everyone — even Kerry King, the Metaliest Metal That Ever Did Metal. King has been one of the mouthiest figures in extreme music pretty much forever, having talked shit at various times about Megadeth, Killswitch Engage, and even Metallica. He also once infamously claimed that Machine Head “fooled me into thinking they’re metal.” Point being, you don’t exactly expect this dude to be shy about announcing who he thinks is or is not tr00.

And yet…

During a recent interview with B.C. Rich (whose guitars King has notoriously played his entire career), the Slayer guitarist was asked about the recent trend of decidedly non–metal celebrities wearing metal merch. His reply?

“It’s not for me to judge. Is it weird? Yes. Is it humbling? Yes. Do I know which ones are real and which ones aren’t? Not a clue.”

So, to review: Kerry King has felt confident questioning the cred of Metallica, Megadeth, Machine Head, and Killswitch Engage at various points in his life, but he does not feel confident assuming that none of the Kardashians actually like his band.
