Helpless are Helplessly Heavy
The press copy accompanying the debut album from the U.K.’s Helpless starts with one word, given its own line for emphasis:
Fuck.
Yes, I’d agree.
It then goes on to name-check Gaza and Coalesce as sonic check-points.
Also yes. Definitely agree. Although I’d add they’re a bit more grind-y than either of those.
That right there should be enough to get you to at least press “play” on their new video for “Ceremony of Innocence,” but in case you need more goading, how’s this: the band’s music is chaotic, punishing, dissonant, nasty, and absolutely vile. Metal writers ten or fifteen years in the future will still be struggling to come up with new adjective that describe how abrasive and heavy this band is.
Sold yet? I sure hope so.
